Adult Basic Education

The Butte Adult Basic Education offers the following classes on an ongoing basis:

Essential of Math
Tailored to your individual needs. Whether you are returning to college, preparing for the GED, or helping your kids with their homework we can help you learn at your own pace and your own time.

College Prep Algebra
Review important concepts of math, move on to algebra covering rational numbers, integers, linear equations, polynominals, and rational expressions

Reading and Writing Essentials
Improve your skills for GED, college prep, or workforce. Instruction may be individual, small group . Reading covers comprehension and vocabulary. Writing includes sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, spelling, essays and writing.

Writing for Business or College
Refresh your skills in this class covering sentence structure, punctuation, grammar and style.

Community Education, a department of the Butte School District, includes General Adult Education and Adult Basic Education Literacy.
Community Education is an opportunity for local citizens, schools, agencies, and other institutions to become active partners in addressing education and community concerns iin an efficient and cost-effective manner. We believe that:

Community Education

General Adult Education Program
Adult classes are typically scheduled in the fall and spring each year with each class running 5 to 10 weeks. Classes may be schedule during the week. Registration will open two weeks prior to class start date. Registration forms are available on-line - print off, fill out and drop off or mail with your payment to:

    REFUND POLICY Courses with low enrollment may be cancelled. Refunds will be given within 3-5 business days. Students wishing to withdraw must submit a request in writing by the end of the first week.

    Teach a Community Education Class Share your skills . . . . Classes may be scheduled at a variety of weeknights or locations, depending on your needs. If you are interested in pursuing this rewarding experience, please contact A.C.E. Coordinator at 533.2967.

    Deadlines for class proposals are as follows: October 31st for Winter/Spring; and May 22nd for Fall/Winter classes. Proposals submitted earlier are appreciated.

    Education Foundation

    The mission of the Butte Education Foundation is to facilitate the funding of innovative educational programs and to advance community support for excellence through endowments, scholarships, grants and special programs. Run by a board of directors made up of businesses, education and community leaders the foundation provides financial resources for students and educators in the district and county schools.

    Our guiding vision is that every child has the right to an excellent education and that an investment in the Butte area schools is an investment in the Butte area community.

    Thanks to past collaborations with local businesses the Butte School District currently enjoys the reputation as one of the most technologically advanced districts in the state.

    Highlights

    Classroom Grants - Awarded twice a year to teachers for a one time classroom project. A grant application can be submitted by a teacher, student or a parent in collaboration with a teacher.

    Teacher Recognition and Student Achievement Awards - Awards given to students and teachers to recognize excellence in teaching and learning.

    Scholarships - Memorial or other scholarships for students or teachers.

    Individual Subject Awards - Awards encouraging the growth and importance of academics.

    Partners in Education - This program would encourage business and school partnerships, including business sponsorship of grants, and awards, internship and tutoring.
